BravoNation

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Bravos?
Bravos are electronic awards that you can send out by email. You can draw your own Bravos or pick from a selection of pre-made illustrations.
What are Bravoteers?
Bravoteers are members of BravoNation who can send out awards. While anyone can collect Bravos, only Bravoteers can send them out. Right now, membership is limited to invitation only. If you're not yet a Bravoteer, you can sign up for our interest list, and we'll let you know when you can join!
Is there any way I can show off my Bravos on my blog or my myspace?
Yes there is, and it's called your Bravo Book. Go see the Bravo Book page to get some HTML code that you can paste into your blog, website, or myspace.
Are the Bravos that I collect or make public?
Yes, all Bravos created or collected are effectively public. We don't have any current plans for allowing people to create private Bravos.
What does Keeping a Bravo or Scrapping one mean?
Yay! Congrats on earning a Bravo! :) When someone sends you a Bravo, you can either Keep it, and add it to your public collection of Bravos, or you can Scrap it, and it will never become part of your profile. It's your way of controlling what Bravos you want to show off, and which ones you'd rather not. Oh, and FYI, if you Scrap a Bravo, we won't notify the sender, but if you keep it, we'll post a news feed item for them immediately, and show them the emoticon response you made, too. Oh, and if the email address the Bravo was sent to hasn't been claimed by any Bravoteer yet, if you take one of these actions while logged in, we'll automatically add it to your account. You can remove them if you want on your Email Preferences under My Account.
Rough Draft?
If you can't tell, BravoNation is a very experimental place. We want to retain the flexibility to respond to our Bravoteers without ruffling too many feathers. In order to do that, we need to make sure that everyone understands that things here can and will be revised. (In other words, expect frequent changes.)
What are Bruckos?
Bravo Bucks, or Bruckos for short, are a simple currency that you can use to send out Bravos. We give every Bravoteer an allowance of Bruckos each day so that they can keep sending awards, but there's maximum amount of Bruckos that anyone can collect.

If you find yourself running up against your limit even though you're not a spammer, let us know!

How do Invites work?
Invitations are handed out every so often, and you can use them to invite your friends to become a Bravoteer.

We're trying to grow the site slowly so we'll only give out Invitations when we're ready for more people to send Bravos. Please be patient and keep tabs on the invitations in your account through your My Account page, or in the lower left-hand footer.

Can I change my avatar or screenname?
Yes, just click on your name in the upper right, and then click on "Change Avatar or Nickname".
Do my friends need to have a Yahoo! ID to receive the Bravo I sent?
No, anyone can receive and collect Bravos without having a Yahoo! ID. However, in order to give Bravos, you have to be a Bravoteer.
What's my primary email address?
Your primary email address is the email address that is shown as the "From" address in email notifications sent on your behalf for Bravos or invitations. You can change it by adding new email addresses and making a different one your primary.
Can I receive Bravos at email addresses other than the one I signed up with?
Yes, once you've registered at BravoNation, if you follow the links sent via email while you're logged in to your BravoNation account, you can keep those awards and "claim" that email address as one of your own. That way you don't have to keep multiple accounts, but instead all of the Bravos sent to any of your email addresses become part of a single profile. You can also add new email addresses to your account manually at the Email Preferences area.
What happens when I remove an email address?
Removing an email address just removes it from your Bravoteer account. The Bravos sent to that email address won't show up in your Bravoteer account anymore, but they will still be attached to that email address. You can change your mind later, and link the email back to your account, and the Bravos sent to that email address will show up in your Bravoteer account again.
Can I give an award that someone else created?
Not yet, although we are thinking of asking the creators of the coolest, most coveted images that everyone makes and inviting them to share it for public use with full attribution.
Can I upload my own images?
It's planned for a future revision of the Bravo Builder!
Can I give Bravos out on my website, too?
If you're a technical developer, we'd like to hear from you how you'd like to give out Bravos through our API. Please submit an application for API Access and be patient while we determine whether it's a good fit.
